Tammy Mata is the Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer and Head of People Resources and Relations at Valley Bank. In her roles, she leads the development, delivery and communication of a holistic Diversity, Equity and Inclusion strategy for the organization and works with employees to ensure their growth and success. Tammy spearheads and executes key DEI initiatives and creates and implements programs to build greater connections among employees and the greater communities Valley serves and creates space for Valley associates to bring their authentic selves to work by providing opportunities to learn, connect, and share experiences.
Prior to joining Valley, Tammy worked for a large insurance company where she focused on diversity and inclusion initiatives, employee relations matters, investigations, and HR policies. In that capacity, she worked on the company’s overall diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, programs, and employee engagement, which included managing the company’s employee resource group program and external diversity partners as well as developing inclusive talent acquisition processes and practices. Prior to transitioning to the DEI field, Tammy practiced employment law for fifteen years, most recently as in-house counsel at a leading financial services firm. Tammy holds an undergraduate degree in Politics and a certificate in Afro-American Studies from Princeton University, and a law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
